FOUNDATION SQUAD - Tuesdays only

The Foundation Squad is a great starting point for young athletes to learn how to run, jump and throw. Here, athletes will be able to gain fitness, learn basic techniques and try out all the events.

Every Tuesday the Foundation Squad starts at 6.00pm at the track, and after a group warm up, they split into groups of 8 to 10 athletes where they will get the opportunity to try one field event and some running. Over a 8-week period each athlete will have tried all the jumps, all the throws and hurdles.

We will be holding a few regular internal club time-trials and competitions, to prepare our younger athletes for the National Young Athletes League, which runs through the summer.

Although, we don't have a specific Foundation Squad on Sundays at the moment, any younger athlete is welcome to come along and train with the main training groups.

We also encourage our new coaches to start in this group, as it helps gain experience in all events and work alongside our experienced coaches.

We have steadily been recruiting new coaches for the during 2009 and now have a committed and enthusiastic team of coaches and helpers.

  • Trevor Cummings - Sprints (L1)
  • Adam Roberts - Sprints (L2)
  • Suzanne Hall - Hurdles (L1)
  • Tim Gutch - Long Jump (L1)
  • Peter Robinson - Pole Vault (L1)
  • John Curtin - Throws (L4)
  • Sophie Jones - Throws (L1)
  • Matt Lane - Sprints
  • Leona Goulbourme - Sprints (L1)
  • Nick Stanisacljevic - High Jump

I am still looking to recruit more coaches and helpers to the squad, so we can continue to build the group as the foundation to the club and it's growth.

Thanks

Paul Macgregor
